Free Fishing Days

Free fishing days offer New York State residents and non-residents who are 16 and older* to fish without a freshwater fishing license (*Kids under 16 can always fish for free!).

2025 Free Fishing Days Schedule

  • February 15-16 (President's Day Weekend)
  • June 28-29
  • September 27 (National Hunting and Fishing Day)
  • November 11 (Veterans Day)

These days offer the perfect opportunity to try out fishing for the first time, to get back into the sport, or to take a friend or the whole family along to fish! Even though a license is not needed, all other fishing regulations apply.

Bee Hotel, Bird house, and Leopold Benches Workshop

Join us at the Adirondack Interpretive Center for one or all of our spring workshops! Help the bees and the birds by building a bee hotel and/or bird house. Then enjoy watching the busy bees and beautiful birds by relaxing on your very own Leopold
Bench. All building materials and tools will be supplied.

Bring your own lunch.
Cost: Bees: $35, Birds: $20, Benches: $40

All workshops will begin at 10am at the Adirondack Interpretive center.

Micro Wrestling Federation Invades Minerva NY

Big Little Brawlers is coming to Minerva

The Micro Wrestling Federation is a full-scale, WWE-type event supported by an entire cast under five feet tall. It will be pandemonium as the Micro Wrestlers body slam, bear hug, and headlock throughout an evening of nonstop action. Here is what you can expect:

  • Two Single Matches: Who are the toughest Micro Wrestlers? Come find out!

  • Micro Brawl: Body slams, suplexes, and punches to the face can take place anywhere in the venue! Get ready for up-close and personal Micro action!

  • Micro Rumble: The Micro superstars enter the squared circle and stand tiny toe-to-tiny toe against one another in the main event! The belt is on the line and only one Micro wrestler will leave as champion.

Civil War Encampment at the Overlook

18th Regiment Encampment Weekend 

The Town of Newcomb will be holding a captivating weekend of history, camaraderie, and education as they delve into the deep roots of the town's history. This event promises to be an enlightening experience for all ages, offering a unique opportunity to step back in time and witness the past come alive. Please note that this event is not a reenactment with battles but rather an informative and educational weekend.

Friday:

  • Set up camp: Our dedicated members of the 118th Regiment will begin their encampment, creating an authentic atmosphere that transports you to a bygone era.
  • Visit/Chat: All ages are welcome to engage in enlightening conversations with our knowledgeable reenactors. Kids from NCS (Newcomb Central School) will be there.
  • Campfires - Q&A: Join us around the campfires for a cozy evening of question and answer sessions, where you can learn more about the history of the 118th Regiment.

Saturday Day:

  • 118th members in Full Dress: Experience the grandeur of the 118th Regiment as its members don their full military dress, complete with authentic details and historical accuracy.
  • Morning Colors/Breakfast at Camp: Start your day by witnessing the rising of the morning colors and enjoying a hearty breakfast at the camp.
  • Ceremony - Roll Call of the Dead: Pay tribute to the fallen heroes with a solemn ceremony. The infantry will be in full dress uniforms, and the artillery will perform a firing demonstration. Names of the deceased will be read alongside a brief history.
  • Music/Violinist: Immerse yourself in the music of the era with a live violinist, creating a captivating atmosphere.
  • Morning Arms: Get up close with the weapons and equipment used by the 118th Regiment during the Civil War.

Saturday Night:

  • Candlelight Walk: As the sun sets, take a candlelit stroll through the encampment. Multiple stations will be set up throughout the camp, providing opportunities for insightful discussions at each station.
  • People meet at artillery pieces: After completing the station visits, gather around the artillery pieces for a unique night firing demonstration that promises to be both exciting and educational.

Sunday:

  • Open Camp until early afternoon: The encampment remains open for exploration and further interactions until early afternoon, allowing you to absorb the history and engage with the members of the 118th Regiment.

Pancake Breakfast with the North Hudson Vol. Fire Department

Pancake Breakfast!

When: Third Saturday of the month from 8 - 10:30 a.m.

Where: North Hudson Volunteer Fire Department 

Cost: $10-Buffet Style

The Adirondack Yard Sale takes place on the east shore of Schroon Lake at the Community Center in the Town of Adirondack.

54th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair and Silent Auction

54th Annual Arts & Crafts Fair

The Schroon Lake Association will be holding its 54th Arts and Crafts Fair on Saturday, July 27, 2024 from 10:00am - 4:00pm. This extremely popular fair is held in the Town Park overlooking Schroon Lake.  All the profits that the SLA derives from the Fair go toward our continuing efforts to protect and maintain the health and welfare of the lake (e.g., hiring a certified lake manager as a consultant, funding scientific studies of the lake water, underwriting the fees involved in CSLAP and ensuring that there are sufficient funds for milfoil harvesting).
