M3 Musicfest

The Town of Moriah, M3usicfest, is set to return on Saturday, October 12, 2024 as an end of summer celebration, featuring five bands, food trucks, and vendors. See flyer below for more details! 

This free festival will take place from 1:00 – 6:00 PM at the Witherbee Park Bandstand located at 28 Park Place in Port Henry, NY.

Witness the Lunar Blood Moon over the Adirondacks on March 14, 2025

Lunar Eclipse: Watching the night sky will remind you how amazing our world really is.

Mar 13-14, 2025

A total lunar eclipse will begin around midnight on Thursday, March 13, 2025. Total eclipse of the moon will occur around 3:00 a.m. on Friday, March, 14, 2025 and ending around 6:00 a.m. Friday, March 14th.  This breathtaking celestial event is called a Lunar Blood Moon. As the Earth moves between the sun and the moon, its shadow will cast a deep red hue over the lunar surface, creating a mesmerizing spectacle in the dark Adirondack skies.

Where to watch: Find an outdoor space to enjoy, be safely away from roads and light pollution.

The Adirondacks are one of the best places in the Northeast to experience this celestial event, thanks to their vast wilderness, minimal light pollution, and expansive dark skies. Away from city lights, the moon’s dramatic transformation will be visible in all its glory, making for a truly unforgettable stargazing experience.

Preparation 

• Dress warmly.
• Bring warm drinks, blankets, or chairs.
• Try to minimize light in your vicinity.
• Find a spot where your line of sight won't be obstructed by tall buildings or trees.

Equipment

• No special equipment is necessary.
• Binoculars or a small telescope can enhance the experience by revealing details on the moon's surface.

Viewing

• A lunar eclipse can last several hours, but the period of totality usually only lasts an hour or so.
• Don't miss your chance to experience the mystery and beauty of the universe from the heart of the Adirondacks. According to NASA, another total lunar eclipse won't be visible in the U.S. until March 2026, making this a rare opportunity to witness one of nature's most stunning phenomena.

2025 Firetowers Light the Night 

Commencing in 2014, the Fire Tower Illumination marks the onset of a statewide tradition. Its inception lies in the desire to extend the glow on the horizon to distant observers, inviting them to reflect upon and honor an era when fire rangers vigilantly manned the watchtowers, safeguarding both the community and the encompassing woodlands.

Numerous fire towers nestled in the Adirondacks region will once again partake in the annual, synchronized illumination of these iconic structures. Marking the milestone of the 10th annual occurrence, a group of dedicated volunteers will light up the fire towers on the evening of Saturday, August 30, precisely between 9:00 and 9:30 p.m.

In celebration of a decade since the inception of this meaningful tradition - a reading of the names of those who once served in the towers will accompany the illumination ceremony.

Please remember this is not a hiking event! This event is tailored for individuals to view from a distance, gazing upward and reflecting as they witness the radiant light emanating from the fire tower.
