Hiking Hoffman Notch

Midway is Big Marsh, which is more of a pretty pond, and much of the northern end follows Hoffman Notch Brook for abundant scenery. The trail is 14.7 miles round trip from either direction, but if you can on doing this as a point to point, stashing an extra car at the end and starting at the opposite trailhead, you will want to start at the Loch Muller trailhead. This makes the hike have less elevation gain.

It's not an overly challenging, trail but involves unbridged stream crossings and some muddy spots. Along the way, there are some small waterfalls.

Hoffman Notch in the winter

This is a classic thru-ski, and can also be done on snowshoes. It is done by intermediate to advanced cross-country skiers. If you decide to do it, be prepared for all winter conditions. Be particularly careful on some of the water-crossings, and bring extra non-cotton layers in case you take an unexpected fall into water.
