Laurel and Hardy at the Strand Theatre in Schroon Lake

July 8, 2024 8:00 pm All tickets $15, available at the door

Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy are the movies’ most iconic comedy team, known and beloved all over the globe. What many people don’t know is that they made comedy shorts during the silent film era. Silent film historian and accompanist Ben Model (MoMA, Library of Congress, TCM) will present a program of three of Stan and Ollie’s hilarious slapstick comedies at THE STRAND AT SCHROON LAKE on Monday, July 8, 2024 at 8pm. The boys are convicts whose prison break hardly goes as planned in THE SECOND HUNDRED YEARS, are newly-minted detectives after a dangerous criminal in DO DETECTIVES THINK? and wind up in the biggest pie fight in cinema history in THE BATTLE OF THE CENTURY. Ben Model will introduce these newly-restored classics, and will accompany them on piano with his own original scores.

Ben Model brings silent films and his original piano compositions each summer to the Strand Theater in Schroon Lake.  Ben is one of the nation’s leading silent film accompanists, and performs on both piano and theatre organ. Ben works full-time presenting and accompanying silent films in a wide variety of venues around the USA and internationally, carrying on a tradition he learned from silent film organist Lee Erwin (1919-2000).
